Spectacles Recycling in Bridlington

recycle-glassesIn just about any home, you can find a pair of reading glasses that are no longer used. That pair of discarded spectacles can change another person’s life. We’ve all experienced the feeling of utter helplessness when we find that we’ve left our reading glasses at home. Imagine if every day was like that! That’s why we started the Lions Recycle for Sight program because everyone can help.

Throughout the year the Lions collect used reading glasses and these are delivered to Vision Aid Overseas based in Bridlington. The glasses are first sorted and then sent various prisons around the country where long term inmates are trained to clean, regrind, sort by prescription strength and package the glasses. These reconditioned spectacles are then taken by teams of specialist volunteers to countries in most need. Vision Aid Overseas establish vision centres where local people can access eye test and spectacles. They also train in-country eye care workers.

How You Can Help – Drop Your unwanted spectacles in Lions Collection Boxes

You can drop off your spectacles at Lions sponsored collection boxes in any of these following  opticians located in Guildford town centre:

  • Spec Savers
  • Boots OpticiansNicklins
  • Langston

and at the Lions Book Shop in Palace Car Park.

Your unused and unwanted spectacles can transform a life. Please give them to the Lions so they can be used to help communities in need.

In the past year Bridlington Lions have recycled with the help of students from the East Riding College a massive 4397 pairs of glasses. We would like to thank everyone that has assisted in helping us do this.
