ABOUT OUR COMPETITION
We would like to encourage all Bridlington writers and would-be writers to enter our competition. In particular, we would like to urge new young writers to be bold and take this opportunity to submit their creative work.
It does not matter if this is your first attempt at creative writing, just surprise yourself and have a go.
You may choose your own subject for the story. It can be anything that interests you – fantasy, science fiction, crime, horror, mystery, love and romance, adventure – whatever you feel like writing about. There are no restrictions.
So, have fun and let your imagination run free. We look forward to reading your work.
Remember that the maximum word count is 2000 words. Entries may, of course, be shorter than this. You don’t have to write the full 2000 words if your story takes less than this to tell.
ABOUT THE JUDGE – Tim Atkinson
Tim Atkinson is an award-winning UK blogger and well-established author. A teacher for over 20 years, he was a regular contributor to the Times Educational Supplement before exchanging the classroom for full-time writing. He is the author of several non-fiction books (including Creative Writing: The Essential Guide), as well as the acclaimed novel,
Writing Therapy. He has written poetry and plays and edited an anthology of new writing – Tiny Acorns. Tim has an MA in Education and a Diploma in Creative Writing. He is also a creative writing tutor and mentor.
Entries will be judged anonymously.
The closing date is 31 July 2014. Judging will take place after this date. The winner in each category will be announced in October 2014.
CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
· You must be resident in Bridlington. Exception is made for students 16+ attending schools and colleges in the town.
· Stories can be up to a maximum length of 2000 words. Entries over this length will be disqualified.
· Your entry must be entirely your own original work and must not have been previously published or under contract for publishing.
· Your story must not have already won in any other competition.
· Submit your story, which must be in English, typed or printed, using double-line spacing, on one side only of each A4 sheet of paper.
· Each sheet of the story must have a header with the title printed on it and the pages numbered.
· Your name must not appear on the story pages.
On a separate sheet of paper or on the entry form overleaf, give your full name, age, address, telephone number, email address, the title of your story, the word count and the name of school or college attended, if applicable.
· Envelopes must be clearly marked –
SHORT STORY COMPETITION
· Entries will be judged anonymously and the judge’s decision is final.
· No correspondence will be entered into regarding any entry.
· No alterations may be made to the entry once it has been submitted.
· We will not return any stories to the entrants, so please keep a copy.
· The closing date for the competition is July 31 2014. Entries received after this date will not be eligible for judging.
· You may enter more than one story, each to be accompanied by a fee of £5.
· Cheques or postal orders should be made payable to:

· All proceeds will go towards the club’s charitable activities.
